REPORT OF WORK GROUPS
Access to Health Care
No report from Access this month.
Healthy Lifestyles/Health Youth
The two groups met together last month. Both are interested in targeting nutrition and childhood obesity. This was a meeting to share what each group is doing, and also to network between the different agencies represented. The wellness center is constructed and work continues. Healthy Youth has been speaking with the Mayor's office to plan the second annual Mayor's Youth Forum. Funding sources will need to be explored. Some agencies may have grant money available to help sponsor this event. Both groups are seeking to expand membership.
Health City Initiative
The money has been received from the Harvard Pilgrim grant and should be presented in next month's financial report. The Healthy Fall River summit is scheduled for March 25th. Invitations are going out to around 800 individuals with the hopes of 200-300 in attendance. The summit will be looking for people to make a commitment to specific actions. A plan of action will be developed. Although many projects are five to ten year initiatives, the group would like to have some visible results by the summer.
The slate of nominees for the Steering Committee membership has been finalized. Work group leaders will review and affirm that all groups that should have been are added to the list. The membership list for the Steering Committee will be sent to all members of Partners to vote on each member for their election to Steering Committee. The results will be submitted at the February meeting. At this meeting the Steering Committee will elect officers from a nomination slate presented by the Nominating Committee.
The Regional Center is open and looking for a staff person. The DPH reorganization has been implemented.
The Mayor has recently met with Fall River and surrounding community officials in regards to the heroin problem in Fall River. David Weed will be writing a letter for us to send to the Mayor showing our support for this endeavor.
The Big Friends/Little Friends program, a mentoring program run by Family Service Association will be making its media debut next week.
